Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa:
Archeologists believe that the Catacomb of Kom el Shoqafa was started in the 2nd century A.D. and was used to intern the dead for the next 200 years. This was a period in the history of the city of Alexandria when there was a great mixture of different cultures. Of course, there was the ancient history of the great Egyptian kingdoms, which went back thousands of years. Also in 332 B.C., Alexander the Great had conquered the land, established the city of Alexandria, and started a dynasty of Greek rulers who brought their own culture to the metropolis. Finally, in 31 B.C., the Romans took control of the city and added their traditions. Mr Egypt Tours allows you to know that
Pompey’s pillar:
Pompey’s pillar is a Roman column in Alexandria and the largest of its type constructed outside of the imperial capitals of Rome and Constantinople. The column was made of Aswan granite. It is about 27 m high. You will be provided with a lot of information during your Egypt day tours.
The column was built in 297 AD, commemorating the victory of the Roman Emperor Diocletian over an Alexandrian revolt. It is wrongly dated to Pompey.
The Citadel of Qaitbay:
The citadel of Qaitbay was built in 1477 AD by Sultan Al-Ashraf Seif El-Din Qaitbay. The citadel was built on the site of the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria, which was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Sultan Qaitbay was born in 1423 AD. He was a Mamluke bought by Al-Ashraf Bersbay.
Then Sultan Djamqaq bought him and gave him freedom. Qaitbay occupied various posts. He was the chief of the army during the rule of Sultan Tamar Bougha. When Sultan was dethroned, Qaitbay was appointed as a Sultan in 1468 AD and ruled for about 29 years. Qaitbay was fond of art and architecture. The construction of this citadel started in 882 AH. Know more information during your trip to Alexandria from Cairo.
Roman Amphitheatre:
It is one of the most popular Alexandria highlights. The amphitheaters were widespread during Roman time. This Amphitheatre is the only one that still exists in Egypt. Located at Kom El-Dekkah (Hill of Benches), named due to many piles of rubble and sand found there. Kom El-Dekka theatre was where important meetings like public assemblies and governmental summits took place. This theatre consists of 13 rows numbered in Roman digits.
The Library of Alexandria:
It is one of the largest libraries in the world and is one of the largest Alexandria sightseeing that you can visit. Located on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea. It is a commemoration of the Library of Alexandria, which was lost in antiquity, and an attempt to revive something of the brilliance that this former center of study represented. The library was officially inaugurated in 2002. It contains books in Arabic, English, and French.

It was really nice, I had a great time and I enjoyed my experience, Mr Mohamed was very knowledgeable about Egyptian history and he helped us a lot even he didn’t left us until we got our SIM card from the store it was really so nice of him to, thanks Mr Egypt tours for the amazing experience
One of the best days we spent in Egypt, everything was perfect, we had enough time even to walk on our own around the different attractions. Lots of information and interesting facts were provided during the tour and the driving skills from the driver were outstanding. We absolutely recommend the experience. Thank you!
What an amazing experience! Definitely exceeded our expectations. My wife is the biggest critic and she lauded everything about the tour. Gbaly was our tour guide and was fantastic. He made sure we didn’t miss anything and his explanations were quite clear. Thank you for making our visit the best it could have been.
Hamad was the best tour guide 🥰 He took the time to explain everything to us, gave us free time to explore on our own, took the best pictures and made our tour really fun, nice and comfortable with the driver Abdula. Lunch was nice and with great variety. We highly recomend him! 💯
What a wonderful experience we did have with this tour guide. The level of excellence and expertise he does have its literally unbelievable. Definitely getting him on our next visit next year. Highly recommend.
Thank you again for wonderful experience that we had
I had an amazing experience with both Muhammad and Ibrahim. Ibrahim made sure we got to each location safely. Muhammad was full of information on everything I saw. He knew all the great spots to go to for pictures and made sure I was taken care of the entire time. Lunch was fantastic as well. Got to try some Egyptian cuisines for lunch and Muhammad explained all the food we ate. I will definitely be recommending Mr Egypt Tours to all my friends.
We ended up doing three private day tours with Hamad. We did the pyramids/saqqara one, the Egyptian museum/bazaar/citadel one and the day trip to Alexandria one. We managed to arrange very easily a private tour for all three days and Hamad was very helpful, flexible and friendly. I would really recommend joining one of his tours.
Especially the tour at the Egyptian museum was amazing as he helped us focus on the most important items that put together the pieces of a huge historical puzzle. Hamad provided useful historical and cultural information without it ever becoming boring, while he was able to answer all our questions.
The transportation was punctual and safe while the cars were clean and in great condition. The drivers were driving carefully in the chaotic streets of Cairo.
Two minor remarks for your preparation but without affecting our experience significantly:
- lunch is always at the end of the tour or quite late, so usually around 3-4pm. Make sure to bring some snacks just to make it through the day. However, Hamad made sure we had a stop at a bakery or cafe whenever we needed to get a snack.
- do some research before starting the activity to make a list of what you would like to see, outside of the standard/main attractions. I have to admit we came without having done a lot of research and in some places it was difficult to make a decision on whether we would like to visit some optional sites. This was in particular the case at Saqqara where there are many optional tombs you can visit. Hamad is very flexible but you need to know what you would like to see. Similarly, in the Alexandria library we were not sure if the reading room was worth visiting so having done some research before could have been helpful.
Such a memorable tour! Hamed is such a great guide, he brought us to all the places we wanted to see. He gave us a full explanation of everything we saw and shared all the best photo spots. It was a pleasure to share the full day with him and get to know more about authentic Egyptian culture. If you want to see all the highlights of the pyramids in Giza and Saqqara, I can only recommend this tour!
Tour well organized, we had the opportunity to visit the main attractions but also the minors and fabulous one.
Thanks to the very professional tour guide Ahmed and driver Abdullah, our tour was perfect! The were very kind and helped us in every request.
I recommend this tour! :)
My wife and I had a wonderful day trip with Hamad, touring the Giza Pyramids, Memphis and Saqqara. Hamad is an excellent guide. He is very friendly and knowledgeable, and also gave us great advice for the rest of our trip. His car and driving are very safe, and the atmosphere for the whole day was wonderful. Highly recommended.
